We have found that most people are literally in awe of kidney donors and recipients. Just meeting someone who donated a kidney — a person who goes to shul, holds a job, has a family — can move them to join our cause. A number of them will go on to become kidney donors themselves. Some will become financial supporters of Renewal. All of them are left with a new appreciation of the good that people can do for each other.

Your personal experiences do even more: few people in our community know about the tremendous need for Renewal’s services, about the long waiting list and significant costs to arrange a kidney transplant. On the other hand, they are not aware that most of our donors are back to work and their families and even having babies shortly after their donation, and that our recipients are doing well. All the literature in the world can’t compete with actually hearing from a healthy kidney donor or recipient.
